Yankees win their 27th World Series!

The World Series ended last night with the New York Yankees winning their 27th championship by beating the Philadelphia Phillies 7-3. This was a championship that had been eluding the team for nine years and it was the perfect way to cap off the inaugural season of the team’s new stadium.

Matsui drove in six of the Yankees’ seven runs. He hit a two-run home run, a two-run single, and a two-run double. He was named Series MVP, and it was the first time that title has gone to a Japanese-born player or a full-time designated hitter.

Matsui’s heroics came at just the right time. The Yankees had lost Game 5 in Philadelphia, forcing a sixth game at Yankee Stadium. If Philadelphia could win it, they could force a seventh and deciding game. But now the Yankees don’t have to worry about playing in the rain, which is in the weather forecast for tonight.

The Yankees’ World Series title was their first since 2000. In those nine years, George Steinbrenner opened his checkbook freely and was often criticized for trying to buy another championship. But until this year, when he again spent millions of dollars on pitchers CC Sabathia A.J. Burnett and first baseman Mark Teixeira, none of the teams went all the way.

I was rooting for the Phillies (after the Cardinals got knocked out), but I guess it just wasn’t in the cards. :(

The World Series Kicks Off Tonight!

It’s been an action packed post-season, and we’ve finally made it to the World Series. The reigning champs Philadelphia Phillies return to the big game to take on the New York Yankees. Game One kicks off tonight in New York.

First Lady Michelle Obama, Dr. Jill Biden, and other dignitaries and elected officials will attend tonight’s game in support of returning veterans and their families. Due to their attendance, security will be increased in and around Yankee Stadium. Fans entering the ballpark will be required to pass through security which will cause delays in getting to their seats. Gates will open at 5:00PM.

What a nightmare that’s going to be. In the rain, no less. :(

Thanks to the MLB partnership with StubHub, there’s still time to get tickets to tonight’s game.. And prices are MUCH cheaper than you’d think!

Twins Edge Out Tigers For Playoffs Spot

Minnesota Twins

The Twins and Tigers met last night in only the ninth one-game tie-breaker in baseball history. There were 12 innings in this game, 13 pitchers, 24 hits, seven ties or lost leads, two dramatic put-outs at the plate, a controversial call, a pair of bases-loaded escapes and, in the end, a Minnesota victory delivered in front of a Metrodome record 54,088 fans.

The Metrodome erupted in a jet-like roar as Carlos Gomez zoomed home with the winning run in the 12th inning to finish off an AL Central race that didn’t want to end. Alexi Casilla singled home the winning run with one out in the 12th inning, and the Twins rallied for a 6-5 victory Tuesday night.
